“Change the World”
it starts with and in you …
It’s been a month since my first editorial, and what a month it’s been. Press conferences, health conferences and presentations were the norm. Take-Back Day on the 29th was an excellent opportunity to meet Drug Enforcement Agents one-on-one. I also met many like- minded game changers who are dedicated to educating and addressing the impact of substance abuse on Staten Island.
dwai.com formed alliances with leaders in the treatment field. Additionally, my Director of Sales, Gina Healy, and I attended a presentation by former addict and NBA player, Chris Herren, at the St. George Theatre. He chronologically described his life and challenges with substance abuse, from his highest highs as a basketball player to his lowest lows as an addict. He is an inspirational individual to say the least. He is a survivor and a positive role model for those who are addicts and those who might be considering making the wrong choices. The Q & A session was enlightening. Quality comments and suggestions were discussed at length. My team and I saw fit to make his book; “Basketball Junkie” first in a series of Book of Month’s to be listed on our home page.
Our initiative to bring permanent Drug/Pill Drop Boxes to Staten Island gained momentum as well. Many petitioners signed up and we will continue our efforts until the boxes are in place.
Our Digital Medication Lockbox by MedSafe has been a huge hit. Parents and educators were impressed with its ease of use. Boris of Nate’s Pharmacy, agreed to include them in his stores. Pharmacists in the national chains throughout Staten Island saw the need and agreed to encourage their District Managers to carry the box.
Our team is taking shape. My Director of Operations, Joanne Samaha, and I are assembling a dedicated group of individuals, who will make a positive difference across Staten Island.
Our first email newsletter will be sent in the coming days. I encourage everyone to sign up through the link on our home page.
Don’t forget, you can …..”Change the World!”
